About the school
The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto is a top institution for research and education in information studies. The Faculty of Information, established in 1928 as a library school, has experienced several transformational shifts over the past two decades. In 2005, the faculty was designated an “iSchool,” reflecting its commitment to interdisciplinary education and research. The school presents master's programmes in Information and Museum Studies. It also has included a combined option for both of these master’s programmes. Additionally, a PhD programme is available.
The premier programme, the Master of Information, is grounded in the notion that fields delving into the intersections of individuals, information, and technology demand an integrative approach. Again, this MI programme aligns with theoretical and pragmatic methodologies in information studies, accentuating hands-on education, and ethical dimensions of information-related endeavors. The faculty of information is home to world-class scholars and researchers working on cutting-edge projects in various areas.

The Faculty of Information is a specialised academic division dedicated to the study of information and its importance in many contexts. It is located within the University of Toronto in Canada. Life at Faculty of Information
The Faculty of Information is located in the core of downtown Toronto and is minutes away from major cultural institutions. It offers a variety of resources to help students find accommodation, including the StarRez portal, the Off-Campus Housing Finder, Housing Events, and in-person appointments with a housing consultant. Furthermore, the college hosts residence workshops for students to find suitable houses.
The Faculty of Information is dedicated to the health and well-being of its students. The faculty has its own Health and Wellness centre, which provides different services to help the students stay healthy and cope with their challenges. The Health and Wellness centre has a team of family physicians, registered nurses, and dietitians who can provide students with various medical services, from checkups to cures for illnesses.

The Faculty of Information offers a variety of financial assistance programmes to help students experiencing financial hardship. The faculty has seven institutes and labs dedicated to exploring the future of information. The learning hub is a writing support workshop that will help students develop their skills and confidence in all areas of academic writing. Three incoming full-time students enrolled in the Master of Information programme receive the Alumni Fund Scholarship award of CAD 5,000 per year. The domestic tuition fees for the Master of Information programme start at $2,000, whereas for international students, they start at $7, 000.

Fast facts
Since 1937, the Faculty of Information has had an internationally recognised American library association. In 2008, in acknowledgement of its membership in iSchools, since then, the name changed to the Faculty of Information, and was recognised as the iSchool at the University of Toronto. Moreover, this transformation prompted extensive revisions and broadening of its academic offerings. The Faculty of Information provides many grants to students and alumni so that they can acquire new skills and have the opportunity to network with other professionals in their field. The Faculty of Information Alumni Association (FIAA) is a community of nearly 7,000 graduates connected by their passion for information.
Admissions criteria
Students need to apply through the School of Graduates application system.
Requirements: Students must have an appropriate 4-year bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. Your degree must contain a minimum of 75% academic credit. You must have a mid-B equivalent GPA. Submit transcripts from all post-secondary institutes you have attended. Resume 2-3 page statement of interest Two academic references are to be submitted You must submit an English proficiency test result if you have not learned your first language.
It is essential for international students to submit an English proficiency test result. The faculty of information accepts the below test. TOEFL iBT: an overall score of 107, a speaking section score of 24, and a writing section score of 27 are required. IELTS: an overall score of 7.5, a speaking section score of 7, and a writing section score of 7.5 are required. Cambridge English: C1: Advanced or C2: Proficiency, with a score of 185 overall and at least 176 for each component, is required. COPE: overall score of 95, writing component of 41, and other components of 27 are required. English Language Program, UoFT School of Continuing Studies: an overall score of ‘A’ in level 60 in academic English is required.
Job placements
Students enjoy access to diverse programmes and services tailored for aiding their job hunts and professional growth from day one of their college joining. The dedicated Careers team offers guidance and advice, including individual consultations, resume writing, mock interviews, and overall career discussions.
Work Study Programme: Master's students are eligible to participate in the University of Toronto's work-study programme. It is open to students working on a full-time or part-time basis. Part-time international students are ineligible for this program. MMSt Internship: Master of Museum Studies students can participate in optional internships at museums and heritage institutions across Canada and beyond. MI TALint: The Faculty of Information partners with the University of Toronto libraries to offer the Toronto Academic Library Internship, a guaranteed 15 hrs/ week of work for the entire two years of the MI program. Job Shadowing Programme: The Faculty of Information alumni association sponsors a job shadowing programme for current students. This programme is an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable insights from present information and museum professionals. It runs from February to August each year. iSkills Workshop: The Faculty of Information provides a career workshop for students to help them prepare for the job market. It covers various topics, such as resume writing, interview skills, and networking.
