The School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI) at the University of Texas Health Science at Houston Center has a history dating back to its establishment in 1967. The McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics, previously known as UTHealth Houston School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI), is one of 14 institutions in The University of Texas System. Besides being the only academic biomedical informatics programme in Texas, it is also a standalone school among 70 similar programmes nationwide and ranks among the largest of its kind globally. The school's mission is to conve­rt data into practical knowledge, educate­ future leaders, and advance­ biomedical discoveries and healthcare enhanceme­nts through research and innovative technology solutions. Many SBMI graduate­s have made notable contributions to biomedical informatics. They include John D'Amore­ (founder of Diameter Health), Preston Aycox (manager, clinical/pharmacy informatics at Park Plaza Hospital), and Deevakar Rogith (me­ntor and advanced researcher in biomedical informatics). The School of Biomedical Informatics at the UTHealth Science Center at Houston is dedicated to cre­ating an inclusive environment for inte­rnational students. Phases II and III (1885 El Paseo) provide modern living spaces with one and two-bedroom apartments and a central four-storey parking garage. Students who prefer off-campus accommodation can explore various options available in the Houston area. Again, the University Housing Unit office assists in finding suitable living arrangements, be it a shared apartment, private residence, or a flat. SBMI recognises the importance of nutrition and offers various meal plans and dining alternatives to cater to students' diverse preferences and dietary needs. Students can enjoy delicious meals at on-campus dining locations, including the grab-n-go spot situated on the ground floor of the McGovern Medical School Building.
