About the school

The School of the Technological Sciences, which served as the precursor to the current School of Arts and Sciences, was established by Catholic University in 1896. The school initially concentrated on social science courses such as economics, political science, and sociology. As the university expanded, these fields were divided into a School of Letters and a School of Sciences. It wasn't until 1930 that the College of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences combined their academic offerings under the School of Arts and Sciences umbrella.
