Northeastern University was founded in 1898 and by 1909, the College of Engineering joined the family. The focus on co-operative learning and internships sets this school apart from many others.

Northeastern University engineering job placement

Experiential learning is key at Northeastern University - and they’ve long integrated career opportunities and networking experiences into the curriculum. As such, job training is often part and parcel of the classroom and you may want to consider one of the co-op experiences if you can’t wait to get out into the field.

Of course, Northeastern offers a number of more traditional job search avenues for MS engineering students, including a career services office that assists students through every step of the job search - and there are special resources for international students.

In addition to general career fairs on campus, there is one dedicated to students participating in the co-op programme and an Engineering & Technology career fair which takes place in the spring.

What's it like to live at Northeastern University?

Boston is a big city and filled with opportunities around every corner. It’s the same on campus; Northeastern offers it all. In addition to affordable grad student housing (which, being Boston, you will want to investigate), there are a variety of meal plan packages.

The international student office at Northeastern is very active on campus and students shouldn’t experience difficulties connecting before and during their time in Boston. There are also a wide variety of fitness options.

Plus, the whole of Boston - and indeed the US - is at your doorstep just waiting for you to take advantage of everything that’s out there.

Does Northeastern University offer scholarships to international students?

Much of the financial aid disbursed at Northeastern comes from the US government and from private sources. As most international students won’t qualify for US federal aid, it’s important to focus on private scholarship options.

Northeastern University does provide a starting point for students, but you’ll also want to spend time researching scholarship options in your home country.

Research and teaching assistant positions are generally reserved for PhD students, but you may want to consider the co-op options if you are hoping to offset some costs.

TIP: You can apply for a Prodigy Finance loan for the full amount you need - and reduce it at any point before you arrive on campus. That's useful for securing your funding and still keeping your scholarship options open.
