The Northeastern University – College of Engineering prepares you to meet real-world challenges innovatively by combining experiential lessons, interdisciplinary research, and a powerful cooperative education programme. Established in 1909, the college has campuses across the United States and Canada and offers a flexible and personalised journey, and boasts more than 54,000 engineering alumni all over the world. The college has six well-planned campuses in all, with four in the USA and two located in Canada, to offer a wide array of Master’s programmes.
Life at College of Engineering
While the university offers 523 student clubs and organisations, at the College of Engineering, you can choose from 69 options that perfectly align with your academic interests. 19 varsity sports allow you to pursue open-air passions. Many off-campus housing options are available for graduate students to suit different budgets and tastes. The Husky Card helps you access buildings, parking, libraries, dining services, printing, laundry, and more. Admissions criteria
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is necessary to apply to the College of Engineering. You can apply even if you are completing your undergraduate degree soon, but you will receive an admission offer only if you complete the degree. Your application will need to include the following types of information:
- Application (completed online)
- Two recommendation letters from persons familiar with your personal, professional, and technical qualifications
- Unofficial copies of transcripts (should include courses, grades, and credits) from all institutions you attended, in both the native language and translated to English
- Resume
- Statement of purpose
- GRE: Optional for the 2023–24 academic year (not required for Chemical Engineering)

To apply to a Canadian campus of the College of Engineering, you need a study permit and comprehensive health insurance plan apart from a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Other criteria may vary from one engineering department to another.
International students must meet the following requirements additionally:
- Proof of English proficiency: You must obtain the minimum score in the following exams to be eligible- TOEFL Internet-Based exam: 95, IELTS: 7.0, and Duolingo: 115 for applicants to Computer and Electrical Engineering departments. TOEFL Internet-Based exam: 79, IELTS: 6.5, and Duolingo: 1055 for others.
- Exceptions apply if you are a citizen of a country where the official language is English/English was the instruction language for your higher education

Job placements
- Extensive Real-world Exposure: 97% of students from the College of Engineering were employed within 9 months of graduating or enrolled at a graduate school, as observed from 2016 to 2021. Co-operative (co-op) education programmes helped students with experiential learning as well as placements by exposing them to real-world experiences locally and globally. In 2022, the college saw 2,897 co-op placements.
In-demand Graduates: Some of the top employers across different departments included Abbott, Johnson and Johnson, Ashland, Pfizer, Natgun Corporation, Barletta Engineering Corp, Apple, IBM, and Tesla. The Gillette Company, Amazon Robotics, General Electric, BMW, Nokia, and Facebook are also featured on the list
Exciting Career Prospects: The college also offers unique initiatives for engineering entrepreneurship, leadership, and business for students who wish to do something on their own. It has many industry partnerships to facilitate research, publications, and patents too.
