About the school
In 1858, Bluemont Central College, the predecessor of Kanas State University, came into existence. In 1863, the college was converted to the Kanas State Agricultural College. The institution later came to be known as the Kanas State University or K-State and became the first land-grant university in the US. The university started operation with the enrolment of the first graduate student in 1868.
Graduate degree courses are offered in all three campuses of Kansas State University- Manhattan, Salina, and Olathe. Princeton Review ranks the college number one for the best quality of student life.
Some of Kansas State University Graduate School’s most illustrious alumni include Herbert Dimond (inventor of the snooze button alarm clock), Charlie Hall (credited with developing the world-famous Crimson Sweet watermelon variety), and Prem Nath (chairman of Dr. Prem Nath Agricultural Science Foundation).

Life at the Graduate School
At Kanas State University Graduate School, students have a wealth of possibilities and facilities at their disposal to enjoy the Campus life. The university is committed to fostering a diverse academic community.
Students can choose to live in any of the housing facilities on the Manhattan campus, like Jardine apartments, 10 residence halls, CAT communities, Smurthwaite House, and Honors House. They can also find off-campus accommodation at fraternities, sororities, and chapter houses located within walking distance of the university. The Salina campus has three residence halls for student housing, namely Harbin, Schilling and Earhart halls. Scholarship houses like Alpha of Clovia for women and Smith for men are other alternative off-campus residences. The two dining centres of the University, Derby and Kramer, have several meal plans for students and offer a multitude of dishes.
There are more than 400 registered student organisations operating inside the K-State campus. Students can join any of the several clubs that are dedicated to academics, community service, multicultural interactions, politics, special interests, etc. There are 30 sports club teams, and they provide the opportunity to participate in intramural sports and K-State athletics. The Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex houses a fitness centre, indoor tracks, basketball courts, and many more facilities.
Kansas State University, in partnership with the Flint Hills Area Transportation Agency, provides students free transportation across the campus. The SafeRide Programme offers free or discounted late-night rides within the city limits. Students can rent an e-scooter from the Link e-scooter parking stations outside the K-State Student Union’s north and south entrances.
Additional Benefits of Studying at the Graduate School
Kanas State University Graduate School ensures the overall professional development of the students by partnering with the Graduate Student Council (GSC), student service units, and many external organisations. The professional development seminars conducted by the GSC enhance students’ knowledge beyond their domain of study. Graduate students can participate in the Graduate Student Leadership Development Programme to develop or hone their leadership skills. Those who have an interest in the teaching field can leverage the teaching-related workshops conducted by the Teaching and Learning Center of the University to develop their abilities. The Kanas Science Communication Initiative’s workshops and other activities help graduate students sharpen their Science communication skills and provide opportunities for public engagement.

Admissions criteria
Admission requirements vary across programmes. International applicants applying to the Graduate School of Kanas State University should satisfy the following general admission criteria:
- Applicants have to pay an application fee
- An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above on a four scale is required
- Statement of purpose needs to be submitted
- CV/Resume
- Degree transcripts in English or their certified translations into English
- Letters of recommendation are required
