About the school

Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine is a New York land-grant college that is dedicated to the creation, dissemination, and implementation of scientific knowledge to improve the health and well-being of animals and people. The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine has been working for over 150 years to keep animals and people healthy. After the University’s foundation in 1865, Ezra Cornell insisted that a chair of veterinary medicine be instituted, and thus, teaching veterinary medicine at Cornell was established. Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine supports the business infrastructure, informational software, and custom applications. The Veterinary Medical Center opened in 1996 and houses the Cornell University Hospital for Animals and research facilities and offices. Other key initiatives taken at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine are the Muenscher Poisonous Plants Garden, Veterinary Research Tower, Schurman Hall, New York State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Cornell's Teaching Dairy Barn, The Janet L. Life at the College of Veterinary Medicine

From classroom support to technology-enhanced learning resources, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine facilitates educational experiences grounded in educational theory that help prepare students to improve the health and well-being of animals and people worldwide. Students get the advantage of Educational Media Production, Instructional Support, Software Application Development, Teaching Facilities Support, and the ESS Knowledge Base that features how-to articles and CVM-specific teaching resources. The CVM is dedicated to the practice, research, and education of veterinary medicine. As such, clinicians, researchers, and students utilize the facilities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition, there is a working café in operation off the second floor while the university is open for business.

Students can take their education to the next level with various residencies, externships, and internships offered by the institution. They can visit the Veterinary Education Center, which houses the main lecture halls and both wet and dry learning labs, both the Irving W. Wiswall Learning Laboratory and the Jerry and Darlene Bilinski Learning Laboratory. They can also visit the Flower-Sprecher Veterinary Library, which resides on the first floor of the centre. Some of the other key facilities where students can explore learning opportunities are Cornell Ruffian Equine facilities, Quality Milk Production Services, and Cornell University Duck Research Laboratory. Residency programmes provide students with a high level of clinical proficiency in a specific discipline to gain experience in professional veterinary medical education and teaching.

Admissions criteria

The school offers clinical residency programmes in various areas. Before applying for admission, students must research well about the application structure, documentation, and fee structure of the required programme. Application Procedures & Requirements Here are some key requirements that students must fulfil before seeking admission: - Applicants from both foreign and American colleges of veterinary medicine can apply - Preference will be given to students who graduate from colleges of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) - Foreign national applicants must be prepared to supply English language official test scores and work authorization documentation, should they be accepted - Students are required to fill out the Clinical Visit Request Form - Provide a detailed CV, including any training or clinical experience - Provide a letter of introduction - Submit the completed request materials (Clinical Visit Request Form, detailed CV, and letter of introduction) via email to cvm-profservices@cornell.edu. - Proof of rabies vaccination/titer results within two years of your visit date is required - Proof of a negative Tuberculin (TB) test within one year of your visit dates is required for Zoological, Wildlife, Exotics, and Lab Animal Services - All students will be charged a non-refundable processing and application fee once their visit is approved by the service - After filling out the application, it will be assessed and verified, and students will be selected based on a final interview with the authorities

Job placements

Internships are one-year, non-degree programmes that provide training for practice, clinical teaching, and specialty-board eligibility. Generally, it is a prerequisite for residency programmes and board certification. Cornell University Hospital for Animals offers internship programmes in various disciplines: - Ambulatory and Production Animal Medicine - Cardiology - Dermatology - Medical Oncology - Small Animal Rotating Internship with Medicine Emphasis - Shelter Medicine - Wildlife Health - Zoological Companion Animal and Wildlife Health Medicine. Cornell University - College of Veterinary Medicine subscribes to the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians (AAVC) Internship and Residency Matching Programme. Here are some of its key features: - Internship and Residency applicants are asked to rank veterinary schools in order of their preferences - Schools are then asked to review applications and rank applicants - The AAVC Matching Program uses a central computer facility to match prospective interns and residents with the programs available - The final selection process is performed automatically by the AAVC Matching Programme; therefore, there is no guarantee that either an applicant or an institution will receive their priority choices
