Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), which traces its origin to 1838, is a nationally recognised urban public research institution. Initially known as the Medical College of Hampden-Sydney, the Institution was later renamed the Medical College of Virginia. In 1968, the College assumed the name Virginia Commonwealth University following its merger with Richmond Professional Institute. Admissions criteria
