About the school
A seed for launching an exclusive school on public policy was laid when the University of Washington (UW) launched the Master of Public Administration Programme in 1947. The management of the University, including its then President, Charles Odegaard, started considering the possibility of having an entire school for public policy and management instead of a department. As a result, the Daniel J Evans School of Public Policy and Governance was established in 1962. At that time, this was one of the country’s first ever public policy schools. Today, the public policy programmes offered by the Evans School continue to be highly sought-after by students all across the globe.
At the time of its inception (1962), the school was known as the UW Graduate School of Public Affairs. However, in 1999, the school was renamed the Daniel J Evans School of Public Policy and Governance.
The building is situated in the famous Parrington Hall, one of the oldest academic structures at UW. In 2020, the building underwent some major renovations, and the structure was re-designed to make the lives of the students and faculty more flexible and inspiring. The school is located in Seattle, the biggest and most populated city in the state of Washington. The city is also well connected with other important destinations inside and outside the state.
