About the school

The University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, is ranked #1 in Canada and #15 worldwide by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021. The University of Toronto Law Faculty is one of the world's greatest law schools. It was established in 1887 and has a long and illustrious history. Life at Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law supports students’ well-being and academic success. It offers various programmes and services to help students balance their educational, professional, and personal lives. Also, students at the faculty of law can balance their family responsibilities with their studies through the help of the University of Toronto’s Family Care Office, which offers many services like childcare, elderly care, and other family matters.

Many housing options are available for law students at the University of Toronto, both on and off campus. The faculty also has family housing options available for students with families. Various programmes are available for everyone on the campus, including yoga, dance, drama, crafts, English conversation classes, a drop-in centre, on-site daycare, a free store, family excursions, and seasonal events. The athletic center is about a 10-minute walk from the law faculty, making it easy for students to stay active and healthy. Hart House, the campus hub, gives students access to cultural events, art galleries, darkrooms, concerts, and club activities like yoga and chess.

CIE fosters global education, delivering services, programmes, and resources for students pursuing international and intercultural interests. Parking on campus is limited. However, the law school is steps from the museum subway station, so you can quickly get to campus without a car. If you need to drive to campus, the University of Toronto parking services offer surface and underground parking options for eligible students.

The Centre for International Experience: It is a student-run organisation that provides services, programmes, and facilities to international students, students with international and intercultural interests, and students looking for education and work opportunities abroad. Mentorship Programme For LGBTQ+: Out in Law is a student group at the law faculty that facilitates a mentorship programme that connects LGBTQ+ students with upper-year students and alumni. This programme is designed to provide LGBTQ+ students with support, guidance, and networking opportunities. Mental and Physical Health: The law faculty believes psychological and physical health is crucial for educational success. It offers various resources and supports to help students acquire the skills to enhance their well-being and cope with challenges. Post Graduation Debt Repayment Assistance Programme: The law faculty offers PDRAP to eligible JD alums. PDRAP provides interest-free loans to alums struggling to repay their student loans. The loans are forgiven for each year the participant remains in the program. Academic Success Programme: The law faculty offers a free and confidential educational mentoring programme to 100 000 students experiencing academic difficulties or wishing to improve their academic performance.

Admissions criteria

The following documents are required to be submitted directly to the Ontario Law School Application Service (OLSAS):

OLSAS Application Official and original copies of academic transcripts Personal statement Resume Regular LSAT Score Note: English language proficiency tests, letters of recommendation, Interviews, GMAT Scores, and GRE scores will not play any role in admission selection.

In addition to the above document list of US students, international students need to provide the below-required documents to the university:

International transcripts Host institution transcripts required Official migration status in Canada Immigration status, not residency, defines international/domestic status in Canada. International students need a study permit. Admission criteria are uniform, irrespective of status. Equivalent education and recognised institutions are required. No quotas. Canadian government loans are for domestic students only. (The documentation necessary for applicants from the US or any other country remains identical.)

The college has various career programs for its students which include cover letter writing, group discussions, 1-1 mentorship and many more.

Career Development Programmes: The law faculty offers career development programs annually. These programs help students study career opportunities, develop job search skills, and prepare for the legal profession. Law Career Network: The law faculty offers access to the UTLC, a career management system that provides students and alums access to workshops, events, resources, job postings, and more. Career Development Office: CDO is an organisation that provides career development resources and support to students. It works closely with the law faculty to obtain job postings from law firms, government agencies, and other organisations posted at UTLC.
