About the school

The history of Toronto University's Dalla Lana Department of Public Health goes back to the 1870s when public health and sanitation were under hot debate as the industrial revolution and increasing urbanisation posed significant health threats. Initially founded as the School of Hygiene, the institute expanded its academic programmes to include public and environmental health and health policies over the years. The School of Hygiene was formally integrated into the newly established Dalla Lana School of Public Health, a part of the University of Toronto, in 2008. Thus, multiple disciplines were brought under one roof.
