About the school

Founded in 1928, the College of Graduate Health Sciences (CGHS) is one of the six colleges of the vibrant University of Tennessee Health Science Centre. The college has as its primary focus the biomedical sciences. It offers graduate-level instruction leading to the Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science, and Master of Dental Science degrees in the fields of Biomedical Engineering, Dental Sciences, Epidemiology, and many more. According to the US News and World Report, UTHSC holds the 71st position in Best Medical Schools for Research and is tied at 24th for Best Medical Schools in Primary Care. It also ranks No. 12 on the new Safe Campus Top 25 list released by the National Campus Safety Summit, 2020. The Graduate Student Executive Council (GSEC) promotes integration, collaboration, and scientific excellence among peers by representing, negotiating for, and acting on behalf of the student body on topics impacting the environment and lives of students. UTHSC Campus Recreation encourages a wellness-focused lifestyle with group fitness classes, personal training, seminars, and individual workouts. The UTHSC Outdoor Adventures programme provides a variety of outdoor pursuits, including thrilling kayaking and whitewater rafting excursions on rivers in Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina. The Student Academic Support Services and Inclusion (SASSI) offers programming and resources to help students manage the academic, emotional, and social problems that come with health science courses. SASSI promotes an inclusive environment through free counselling, case management, and assistance for all students. The Office of International Affairs is an administrative division offering guidance and support regarding U.S. immigration regulations and compliance to international students in various non-immigrant visa classifications. The Office of Student Life and the Student Government Association Executive Council (SGAEC) jointly serve students, with the former handling administrative affairs and the latter focusing on student governance. The health services at UTHSC provide students with comprehensive healthcare services, including behavioural health and occupational health.
