About the school

University of Minnesota – Institute for Health Informatics was founded in 1965 and uses an interdisciplinary and research-backed approach in its learning environment so that you can improve the world of healthcare in multiple ways. You learn how to leverage the latest information technologies and data science to ensure patient confidentiality while enhancing the scope of service across hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and more. You can choose to pursue a graduate degree in Master of Science (MS), Master of Health Informatics (MHI), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), or a Fellowship in Clinical Informatics. Dual degrees such as MD/MHI and PharmD/MHI are also offered. Between 1974 to 2009, the institute received training grants continuously from the National Library of Medicine.

Job placements

The IHI Student Group undertakes multiple initiatives to facilitate placement for graduates. Apart from posting jobs and research opportunities on the internal bulletin, they conduct workshops on coding languages, data analytics, applications, etc. You learn how to write resumes, cover letters, and emails and perform well at interviews. Eighty-three percent of students usually find employment in informatics-related positions within a year of graduating.
