About the school
The College of Life and Physical Sciences is a public college located on campus at Tennessee State University, Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1912, Tennessee State University is placed among the best regional universities in the Southern US by the U.S. News & World Report. The College of Life and Physical Sciences came into being after the College of Agriculture, Human and Natural Sciences was reorganised in 2019.
The College of Life and Physical Sciences has produced many notable alumni, including Dr Ronald De Vera Barredo (dean of the College of Health Sciences at Tennessee State University). Its graduating programmes are highly rated by regional, national, and state accrediting bodies. Its chemistry programme is highly valued by the American Chemistry Society.
Situated in the vibrant city of Tennessee, Tennessee State University holds the distinction of being the only state-funded historically black university in the state.

College of Life and Physical Sciences, Tennessee State University celebrates diversity and is dedicated to creating a home away from home for its international students. There are on-campus accommodations, such as residence halls and apartments, available for international students. Although off-campus accommodation is not provided by the university, options are available in the areas near the campus. Meals are offered in the main cafeteria as well as by other on-campus vendors. Students can choose from different meal plans based on their preferences and budget. Students need to apply for housing and select a meal plan in advance.
Inside the campus, conveyance facilities like shuttles, public buses, taxis and ride-sharing services are available. Students can also use bicycles or simply walk around the campus. The Student Health Center at Tennessee State University, managed by skilled medical professionals, ensures the health of students and the university community. Fitness centres across the campus provide varied equipment and services for student well-being.

Admissions criteria
When applying to a Tennessee State University - College of Life and Physical Sciences for postgraduate (PG) studies, application packages require extensive preparation and planning. Admission requirements and fees vary for different courses.
A general set of admission requirements is as follows:
- The initial application form requires information such as name, address, contact information, citizenship, exam scores, area of interest, and the programme for which students are applying
- An SOP outlining their academic and professional aspirations, research interests, and why they chose to apply to this particular school
- At least two letters of recommendation are required
- Official transcripts from all previous institutions attended translated into English and evaluated by a credential evaluation agency
- The minimal cumulative GPA for graduation must be between 2.75 and 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, with the range varying depending on the programme of interest
- Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or comparable standardised test scores must be supplied
- TOEFL Score: 71 (internet-based) or 525 (paper-based)
- IELTS: 6
- Notarized Affidavit of support and financial statement, not more than 6 months old
- Proof of required immunisations
- Copy of passport.

Job placements
The University's Career Development Center (CDC) is in charge of helping graduates secure employment. Through their online job portal, Tiger Track, applying for internships and jobs is easy.
The CDC website lists several internship offerings, and their staff provide career advice and training to write a good resume and prepare for interviews. They also arrange multiple career fairs, such as the Fall Career Fair, the Spring Career Fair, the Graduate and Professional School Fair, and the Teacher Recruitment Fair, to promote networking.
