Prodigy Finance 2017 scholarship recipients

Prodigy Finance - December 15, 2017

Prodigy Finance Scholarship recipients 2017

We celebrated our 10-year anniversary by awarding ten scholarships for Master’s degree students, worth $10,000 each. 5 scholarships were awarded to business students, and 5 went to engineering students studying at a supported programme in the UK and US. Anyone accepting a Prodigy Finance loan before 30 November 2017 was eligible.

At the end of March, we selected our first two recipients.

Jaydeep Soni Prodigy Finance scholarship awardee

Jaydeep Soni worked in quantitative finance on both the buy-side and the sell-side - at the intersection of my passion in statistics, programming and finance. Currently attending Columbia University, Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, he is studying MS in Operations Research. He believes it provides a holistic platform to augment the skill set necessary to succeed as a practitioner in the field, with coursework spanning applied math, financial engineering and business.

“The seamlessness and transparency of the Prodigy loan process is unparalleled, and it has been an absolute pleasure interacting with the team. This scholarship goes a long way in helping me realise my professional goals more immediately, allowing me the freedom to pursue more unconventional post-graduation opportunities".

See what he has to say about the Prodigy Finance scholarship programme in this video:

Jaydeep discusses Prodigy Finance scholarship

Kaushiki Dutta is pursuing her MS in Business Analytics and Program Management at the University of Connecticut’s School of Business. Keen to develop her skills in predictive models and statistical analysis, she believes the school and its courses are the best fit to build off her Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering.

“My journey would not have started if Prodigy didn’t help me with my finances. At a time when I was struggling hard to gather finances, this scholarship saved me from all my stress. Not only is it $10,000 less to repay, but it allows me to consider my plan of pursuing my PhD, as well".

At the end of May, we awarded another two scholarships.

Jason Noronha Prodigy Finance scholarship awardee

Jason Noronha may have grown up in Portugal, but he is clearly a citizen of the world. He studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore before pursuing volunteer work in Africa and South America.

it wasn’t long before Jason began considering the benefit an MBA could bring to his future business endeavours – and with travel and technology company on the cards in New York City, Columbia was just the place to further his business education. It’s definitely the right fit for Jason.

“Columbia Business School offers a huge variety of entrepreneurship courses which focus on practical learning in the classroom. The proximity to downtown NYC also brings numerous industry experts to the classroom".

The Prodigy Finance $10,000 anniversary scholarship will make a significant difference to Jason’s future.

“Having started four companies in the past, I am of the opinion that start-ups don't fail, entrepreneurs give up. One of the major sources of failure is the inability to continue to devote time to the start-up due to financial constraints. This scholarship reduces the burden of my school fees and gives me a longer runway to continue to work on my start-up to ensure that we establish product-market fit and generate positive cash flows".

Our fourth scholarship recipient, Vishal Kulkarni, hails from India and is pursuing a Master of Information Systems Management at Carnegie Mellon University

"My dream of coming to the United States and enrolling in one of the best schools wouldn't have been possible without Prodigy Finance. I can't express in words how grateful I am. Prodigy took care of the entire process - making timely payments-taking a huge burden off my shoulders. I am deeply grateful for the scholarship. With this generous scholarship, a bit of that load is reduced. With this, I could peacefully concentrate on my studies and my job search".

Our fifth and sixth scholarship recipients were selected at the end of July.

Sudeep Narsipur is our fifth scholarship recipient. He received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University in 2012.

Sudeep is now pursuing his Masters in Engineering Management at Duke University’s Pratt School of Engineering.

“I can say without a shred of doubt that Prodigy's support has been a huge motivating factor throughout my education at Duke, and this scholarship will only inspire me to further ensure my academic and career success. The huge self-confidence this kind of support instils in a student is immeasurable, and I'm grateful to Prodigy for having shown such faith in my abilities”.

Having begun his career in engineering, our sixth scholarship recipient, Varun Sreenivas, soon discovered that his passion lies elsewhere.

After two and a half years, he chose to pursue his Master of Business Analytics at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management; it provides just the right mix of math, business, and technology. So where to from here?

“The scholarship definitely reduces my financial burden. I can focus my attention on my studies and job search without having to worry too much over repayment. It has also given me the option to seek another advanced degree, which I am actively planning to pursue now”.

At the end of September, our seventh and eighth scholarship recipients received the happy news.

Manisha Chaurasia is pursuing her MS in the Biotechnology Innovation and Computation Program at Carnegie Mellon University. She completed her Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Anna University, Chennai.

"Being born in a country like Nepal, where traditional approaches still prevail over the modern technologies, hardly any contribution has been made in the field of biotechnology in the past. Aspiring to become an entrepreneur, I intend to connect this missing bridge between biotechnology and advanced technology through the knowledge acquired in this field.

Prodigy Finance has been a boon to me as it has not only provided me a loan without collateral but also helped me greatly with this scholarship and made my journey to Carnegie Mellon University possible."

Jonathan San Juan grew up in the Philippines and studied business and accounting at the University of the Philippines. He's now pursuing his MBA at the Wharton School of Business

"I believe a Wharton education provides a strong base in analytics and equips me with the tools I need to make sound decisions. It also has a strong brand and network in New York where I want to be.

Prodigy Finance has made it so much easier and more convenient to obtain financing for my MBA, especially as an international student with limited access to loans in the US. With the scholarship, the financial burden on me - and my family - has been significantly reduced."

We selected the final two 2017 scholarship recipients at the end of November.

Brazilian Augusto Vitorio Tiezzi attained his bachelor’s in civil engineering at the Universidade de Sao Paulo.

Having experienced first-hand the problems facing engineers in the development of large-scale infrastructure projects, he was determined to overcome the obstacles by learning new techniques and furthering his engineering management skills.

“The cohesive environment between students and faculty members, as well as the impressive technical level” at the University of Texas at Austin’s Cockrell School of Engineering attracted Augusto to pursue his MS in Construction Engineering and Project Management at this institution.

Augusto believes his Prodigy Finance scholarship will allow his to stabilise his finances faster, enabling him to restart his career with greater options and less pressure.

Marina Chumakova was raised in Moscow and is now an MBA candidate at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. She previously graduated from the Finance Academy under the Government of Russian Federation with a Diploma in Economics.

After eight years working in investments, she wanted to have an opportunity to focus on entrepreneurship and international business and chose to pursue a Booth MBA specifically for its flexible curriculum.

When she graduates, Marina hopes to make a difference in the world.

“This scholarship will reduce the pressure that I currently have with graduating with the debt, and it will indeed accelerate the time that will be required for me to move towards my goal - establishing my own impact investments business".
