Admissions criteria

  • All applicants, whether domestic or international, must submit a personal statement, typically ranging from two to four pages, double-spaced, outlining their commitment to a career in public service

  • A one-page, double-spaced supplemental essay is mandatory

  • The policy memo requirement is consistent for all applicants

  • Résumé or Curriculum Vitae: Applicants should submit a comprehensive résumé or CV detailing their academic background, employment history, community service, and any academic or professional honours

  • Transcripts from all institutions of higher learning, attended with or without degree completion

  • GPA conversion to a 4.0 scale, if necessary, applies to all

  • Recommendations from similar sources: a professional, an academic, and someone familiar with their commitment to public service

  • Statement of Financial Resources as financial aid decisions are based on merit and need, and additional documentation may be requested to verify financial data

  • Official GRE general test results are required for all MPA applicants. The GRE code is the same for all: 2672

Additional Requirements for International Students:

While most admission requirements are consistent for U.S. and international students applying to the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, international applicants must also meet English language proficiency requirements

International applicants whose primary language is not English, those who didn't complete their undergraduate instruction entirely in English, or those who haven't undertaken at least one year of full-time graduate study in English may need to provide scores from an English language proficiency test (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, DET)
