About the school

CUNY (City University of New York) - School of Public Health was established in 1972. This year, the very first CUNY Master of Public Health degree programme received accreditation from the Council on Education and Public Health in Community Health Education at Hunter College. CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy is committed to teaching and offering services to create a healthier environment in New York City, providing evidence-based solutions to the problems faced by the city every year.

CUNY offers a Master's in Public Health in Community Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Public Health Nutrition, Global and Migrant Health Policy, Population Health in Informatics, and many more.

CUNY - SPH - School of Public Health is at 55 West 125th Street in Manhattan, New York.

Life at School of Public Health

The CUNY-SPH hosts an auditorium, student lounge, two computer labs, conference rooms, eight classrooms, workstations, office space, video production room, all-gender bathrooms, and a wellness centre. The CUNY SPH Facilities Department is responsible for maintaining and cleaning the school facilities in coordination with building custodians, third-party vendors, and engineers.

In addition, the School of Public Health held several events around the year. The students are encouraged to participate in events that help them have leisure time, apart from the regular academic stuff. There are many student clubs, such as PHIRE club, CUNY SPH LGBTQ+ Association, Sustainable SPH club, SPH Sexual & Reproductive Health Rights & Justice Club, and International Students Club. Students are free to choose any club they would like.

Students have the flexibility to decide whether to reside on or off campus based on their preferences. Opting for on-campus housing allows them to join an inclusive community, facilitating connections with like-minded peers and enhancing their CUNY SPH experience. They can connect with a diverse population and develop strong interpersonal and communication skills. As a graduate, students can live in Graduate Centre Apartments. The apartments include amenities that one would expect to find in a first-rate housing complex. It has a rooftop garden, bicycle storage area, laundry facility, and fitness center for a good workout after tiring classes.

Admissions criteria

All aspiring graduate students must apply for the desired programme via the CUNY’s official website. Once they submit the application form, CUNY SPH will email them a Commitment Deposit form.

Generally, applications require the following types of information: - Complete personal information form - A personal statement written by the applicant - A letter of recommendation from an employer, academic, etc. (this depends on the programme) - The applicant’s undergraduate transcripts, which must be translated into English - Resume/CV - A GPA of 3.0 - Possible expenses of attendance may includes the following: - Health service/health insurance - Food and other expenses - Housing
- Transportation

Native students are not required to submit the TOEFL and IELTS. However, one can visit the school's official website for GRE and GMAT score requirements.

International Students: International students are requested to start the application early, as it takes about two to three months from admission to the time they can enter the US to pursue a master's. Applying early would give them more time to prepare themselves, as they need to apply for a Non-immigrant F-1 Status visa and, of course - celebrate!

Before issuing a Certificate of Eligibility, the government of the United States requires documentary evidence of financial support for the course duration. For this, international students are requested to submit the following: - Copy of passport ID page - Copy of SPH admission letter - Affidavit of Support - Certificate of Eligibility request form - Transfer-In form

Once the admission and financial requirements are met, the School of Public Health will issue the I-20 form, which the students must sign and send back to the school for further proceedings.

The Career Services at CUNY SPH have partnered with Handshake to offer students more profound opportunities to find their dream job, connect with potential employers, and network to grow their reach. Each Spring, CUNY SPH hosts a career fair, where various employers take part and hire potential candidates. The event involves opportunities for presentation and 1:1 discussions in small groups.
