About the school
The concept of establishing the College of Dental Medicine can be traced back to 1916 when prominent dentists, physicians, and scientists from New York proposed to Columbia University the need for a dental school within the university’s framework. Since then, the College of Dental Medicine has striven to improve oral health, locally and globally. The college provides oral health care services to the underserved local population in some areas of the USA. Students enrich their experiences by learning the key aspects of oral health and practising them through these initiatives from the dental school. The Institute encourages students to focus on service that brings in more experience. Students voluntarily conduct free clinics and health education events at schools and enthusiastically participate in 'Give Kids A Smile Day, an annual community event.

Life at College of Dental Medicine
The New York City campus offers endless opportunities for students to pursue their passions at the college. Students can engage themselves by joining more than 20 clubs, clinics, and organisations. Within the campus community, there exists a familial atmosphere where peers provide one another with unwavering support. The Big/Little Sibling Programme assigns second-year students to assist those in their first year, not only addressing their questions, but also fostering genuine friendships. The small class size facilitates students befriending each other in no time, resulting in helping each other out. Students can make the most of their experiences by gaining support from The Office of Admissions and Student Affairs. The office addresses problems related to predoctoral admissions, financial aid emergencies, academic progress and support, personal advice, career planning, and postdoctoral placement. The office encourages an open-door policy to help students with their issues between 9am and 5pm Research-oriented students can be members of the William Jarvie Research Society (WJRS), a student-run organisation. The society encourages students to enhance their dental education through research and work in all dental schools. Indirectly, students may collaborate with students from other institutions and build a broad network. WJRS runs several activities to support student research and highlight the importance of research in modern dentistry. The college provides several student resources to benefit them. These include academic advising and support, getting around campus, housing, IT services, health and safety, fitness, and arts, to name a few.
