About the school

The Business School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute has been designed with a science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) focus to help engineers and scientists change the world. The Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has a rich 150-year history, and the Business School is an important division of this historic institute with a rich culture. The business school takes great pride in providing students with a transformative skillset that they might not find in other institutes.

The school aims to bridge technology and business to produce adaptive and game-changing leaders who provide responsible solutions for many major problems in the world. Ultimately, it aims to be the perfect intersection point of business, engineering, and science, where students will learn to make a huge impact on society.

The high quality of business education imparted in the business school is evident from the fact that it is an accredited member of The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). One of the programmes offered by the business school for industrial engineering is also accredited by the highly reputed Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). With the number of STEM-specialised students coming down actively in the US, WPI has been one of the few institutions in the region given STEM designations for some of the major programmes.

The Business School of Worcester Polytechnic Institute is located in Worcester, a city in Massachusetts. The city’s popular nickname is “Heart of the Commonwealth”, thanks to its excellent connectivity to other important places like Boston, Springfield, and Providence. It is also one of the most culturally rich cities in the state.

Life at The Business School

Students at The Business School can learn from the best minds on two differnet campuses - one at Worcester and one at Washburn. Constructed in 1868, today the Washburn campus remains the oldest building in the US to impart high-level education. The Business School has various departments like Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Process Engineering, and Materials and Science Engineering. At the Business School, students can visit the WPI Center for studying innovative manufacturing solutions. This centre provides assistance to small and medium-sized manufacturers in Massachusetts in the fields of equipment, product development, scaling up products, technical guidance, and more. While watching these initiatives, graduate students get ample practical experience in concepts like financial modelling, industrial engineering, and operations management.

Additional benefits of studying at The Business School

At WPI and the Business School, students are given plenty of opportunities to execute on their innovations and build their leadership skills. The institute has a dedicated Business Development Lab where the business school trains students to work on projects that integrate all aspects of STEM and intersect those concepts for the well-being of society.

This lab encourages students from across various disciplines at the WPI and the staff to start new ventures together. This way, students can use their passions to generate money and earn even while they learn. Students are also exposed to many real-life scenarios in their entrepreneurial journey. Lastly, sports and recreation are vital parts of all departments at WPI.
