About the school

Established in 1964, the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto has motivated the youth to delve into innovative research and address the most significant technological challenges. It emphasises technological innovation, including designing software, developing computer applications and investigating mathematical problems. The department has more than 2,500 undergraduates and over 450 graduate students. It boasts of its award-winning faculty that includes two Turing Award winners, members of acclaimed computing societies, five ACM fellows and seven Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada. Admissions criteria

The prominent master’s courses at the U of T Department of Computer Science are Master of Science (MSc), Master of Science in Applied Computing (MScAC), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The fee and application procedure may vary from one course to another.

Application Procedure

Step 1 - Documentation Fill out an application form and collect relevant documents required in the admission process. Apply through U of T’s School of Graduate Studies (SGS). Submit your application and pay the non-refundable application fee (this depends on the programme and school) by the application deadline. You must be ready with: - Names and email addresses of three references - Research interests and faculty members whom you would like to work with - Statement of purpose - Resume/CV - Official academic transcripts - Send the English Language Test and GRE Scores electronically to the University of Toronto’s Enrolment Services - The applicant’s undergraduate transcripts, translated into English - A graduate admissions test result (GMAT, GRE, LSAT), if requested - Proof of proficiency in English (e.g. TOEFL/IELTS), if requested - Minimum Scores/GPA Step 2 – A peer-matching program for applicants from underrepresented groups Under this, feedback is provided to the students on their applications to align them with thesis-based programmes. In this peer-matching programme, prospective students will be matched with a current student who will provide feedback on the statement of purpose (SoP) and CV. Step 3 – Interviews Some applicants may be asked to participate in online interviews with a Graduate Admissions committee member or potential supervisors. Step 4 – Results Applicants will be notified of the result of their application between February and the end of April. Fee structure Along with tuition fees, extra costs may include: - Tuition and fees for international students - Health service / health insurance - Cost of books / course materials - Food and other expenses - Housing - Transportation International students need to review the postgraduate admissions details carefully, as there may be additional requirements related to institutional and school fees, application documentation, and the programme itself.
