About the school
The College of Engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) was founded in 1913 as the Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy. The college trains engineers of the future with real-world experience and a strong academic foundation to transform the realm of engineering. The University of Texas at EI Paso is a Carnegie R1-designated institution.
Some of the distinguished alumni of UTEP’s College of Engineering include R. Noel Longuemare (president of Longuemare Consultants Inc.), Gary Wagner (former president of Ameron International Corp), and Dennis C.K Poon (vice chairman and managing principal of Thornton Tomasetti).
The college is located in the culturally rich and grand city of El Paso. The city is lined with famous and historic Spanish-style mansions, art museums, theatres, music bands and dining outlets that offer lip-smacking Mexican delicacies. El Paso is well connected to other parts of Texas through railways and roadways. It is unique in its own way, as it is the only city in the state of Texas to follow the Mountain Time Zone.
