University of Maryland - College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR)is the cornerstone of the University of Maryland system. This school is built upon a foundation of groundbreaking research and was established in 1865, after President Lincoln signed the Morrill Land Grant Act, providing federal support to develop a college to teach agriculture, mechanics, and military tactics. Maryland Agricultural College was thus chosen as Maryland's Land Grant institution. Popularly known as AGNR, the institute gets the exclusive honour of being the Cornerstone College of this top-tier institution. The institute boasts a diversity of students and faculty who are constantly working on finding resolutions for a range of issues like climate change, urban environment, food and nutritional security, healthy watersheds, and advancing sustainable ag production systems. Admissions criteria
Students should start the admission process by submitting a UMD Graduate Application. Applicants must refer to individual admission criteria, deadlines, and fee structure of the programme they want to enrol in. Here’s the admission procedure: - Complete the Online Application through the TerpEngage Admissions System - Copy of the official transcript(s) for each institution you attended - Identify and Contact References for Letters of Recommendation - Submit Transcripts - Applicants are asked to upload a scanned version of their transcript(s) issued by each institution attended (in the original language, with literal English translation) - Submit Test Scores - The Graduate School will only accept official test scores sent directly by the testing agencies - TOEFL or IELTS (required for non-native English speakers) - Student Visa - All non-domestic transcripts and diplomas should be in the original language and accompanied by a literal, certified English translation. In addition, an international degree certificate/diploma will be required for international applicants. The AGNR Academic Programmes Student Services Office is available for special advising on career perspectives, resume-building, portfolio-enhancement, and generating meetings with company leaders. - High Job Placement Rate: The College is proud to have a 95 % placement rate, and its students and alums go on to have meaningful careers in a variety of industries. - Practical Career Support: The University Career Centre at AGNR is a partnership between the College, the University Career Centre, and the President's Promise. The centre guides students through each stage of their career development; collaborating with faculty and staff to build a network of support to ensure student career and professional success; connecting employers interested in recruiting and hiring our talented students; and networking and skill building and searching for jobs and internships - Specialised Career Guidance: The Agricultural Careers and Entrepreneurship Centre is a virtual centre created to provide helpful resources, training, and opportunities for current AGNR students, prospective UMD students, K-12 students, and adult citizens who are interested in pursuing a career in an agricultural field to advance agricultural systems across Maryland further.
