The University of Houston's rich history of academic excellence has its roots dating back to its establishment in 1927. Then known as the Houston Junior College, the Institute conducted its early classes on the San Jacinto High School campus. With tremendous growth, the College attained the status of a university to become the University of Houston in 1934.

The Campus Recreation and Wellness Center features a well-equipped 24,000 sq ft Fitness Zone with modern equipment. The Functional Training Studio is accessible by joining the Personal Training Programme.
The University of Houston provides on-campus housing in seven distinct residential areas, each offering comprehensive student services. Students can choose from Cougar Village I, Cougar Village II, Moody Towers, University Lofts, and apartment complexes like Bayou Oaks, Cambridge Oaks, and Cullen Oaks.
The Cougar Ride After-Hours Shuttle Service, part of the Transportation & Security Work Group's initiatives, offers convenient transportation to and from the Campus shuttle stops, MD Anderson Library, and Cougar Village or Moody Towers. Parking and Transportation Services offer benefits to UH community members who carpool with three or more people, providing discounted permits and prime parking spots. Students can also join COAST (Coogs on Alternative and Sustainable Transportation) to earn rewards for carpooling or using eco-friendly transportation. The Cougar Line transportation system offers free rides within the Campus and reduced fares for off-campus commuting.

The Media and Moving Image Initiative at the University of Houston brings together and makes better the University's creative and critical programmes in art, literature, and media. They have a bunch of resources, like film production and research at the Valenti School of Communications, a certificate in Cinema Studies from the World and Classical Languages department, and art, music, theatre, and digital media programmes in the College of the Arts and the College of Technology. Admissions criteria
International students applying to the graduate programmes at the University of Houston College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences should adhere to the following admission criteria.
Submission of conclusive proof demonstrating the successful completion of a bachelor's degree
Provide official academic transcripts from every post-secondary institution attended, accompanied by their translations into English
Proof of proficiency in the English language is required:
TOEFL: 79 or higher (iBT), 550 or higher (PBT).
IELTS: a minimum overall score of 6.5
Duolingo: a minimum score of 105
Pearson Test of English (PTE): a minimum overall score of 53

Job placements
Students have a fantastic opportunity ahead of them with the CLASS Dean’s Mayoral Summer Internship Programme. This has been carefully designed to give graduates a chance to work with the local city government. A generous stipend of $5,000 for the student’s dedicated efforts is also paid.
CLASS Career Mixer is open to students from every major and alumni. This event provides them the chance to engage directly with local companies who are eager to recruit UH graduates. The University Career Services hosts the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) Career Fair. It is generally open to students from all majors.
