About the school

The University of Georgia, founded in 1785 in Athens, Georgia, is the first state-supported university in the United States. With a legacy of over 230 years, the university takes pride in being the birthplace of public higher education in the nation. Under the university, the College of Engineering was founded on July 1, 2012.

The College of Engineering is a premier engineering school, soon to become a recognised Thought Leader for the 21st century. It is motivated to create a more capable, responsible and resilient global society. Athens, also known as "the classic city", is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains in the US. It is the historic heartland of the state of Georgia, packed with art galleries, world-class food, and a legendary music scene.

Life at College of Engineering

The University of Georgia’s Department of International Student Life is responsible for transition and support, programming and outreach, and engagement and leadership for international students.

There are 33 residential properties on campus with traditional and apartment-style living. Students can choose from single, double, triple, and quad-sharing spaces. It also has resources for those who wish to live off-campus as well. The Apartments for Athens website has a section dedicated to UGA students. Similar other sources are on the university website itself.

There are voluntary meal plans a student can subscribe to with creative culinary concepts, healthy options, and diverse cuisine. The UGA Dining Services has five Dining Commons and more than 20 retail locations across campus. There are interactive, online menus available as well as a meal plan builder to help customise your overall plan.

The UGA Transportation and Parking Services offers discounts on cab services called Ride Smart. There are bike lanes available across campus and buses have bike racks. UGA reCYCLE or the Bulldog Bike Share programmes encourage students to choose cycling over other modes of transport.

The Athens campus also has some incredible facilities such as the NanoSEC Clean Room, the Biomedical Microscopy Core, the Georgia Genomics Facility, and many more. The Engineering labs such as the Biophotonics Laboratory, the Biophotonics Lab X-Ray Imaging Center, the Medical Robotics Laboratory, etc. offer incredible opportunities for students.

Also, the University of Georgia’s Recreational Sports Department offers a variety of group fitness classes throughout the year. The International Student Life department also has facilities such as the Ramsey Student Center, Pound Hall & Wheeler Gym on the Health Sciences Campus, among others, that students can access.

Admissions criteria

Admission requirements and fees vary for different courses. A general set of admission requirements is as follows:

Apply with an application fee Must have completed their bachelor's (for masters courses) or their master's (for Ph.D. applicants) with a minimum GPA of 3.00 (out of 4.00) Must submit three letters of recommendation Official/unofficial transcripts Proof of English language proficiency through either of the following test scores: TOEFL - minimum overall score of 80 with at least 20 on speaking and writing IELTS - minimum overall bandwidth of 6.5 with no band below 6.0 Duolingo - minimum overall score of 105 Proof of finances must be submitted to the Office of Global Engagement while applying for a visa

Over 92% of the graduates at the College of Engineering are employed within six months of graduating with an average starting salary of 62,000 USD. The University of Georgia's Career Center is the body in charge of helping students find appropriate opportunities outside of college.

There are several assessments a student can take to choose the career path that best suits them. The UGA Mentor Program matches students with alumni who advise you along the way. Guidance for preparing the written resume that teaches students how to break it down to basics, marketing their part-time work and other experiences, including career readiness skills and using strong action verbs.
