About the school

The University of California San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering was established in 1964 and is one of the youngest engineering schools of the nation’s top ten and the ninth largest in the country. The School of Engineering offers MS, MAS, and MEng to graduate students with hands-on experience in the field.

The university is home to several graduate students specialising in six different fields. The Jacob School of Engineering is particularly highly ranked for its bioengineering programme. In addition, the school offers several research programs, including the Center for Wireless Communication, the Center for Energy Research, etc. The Von Liebig Center funds and commercializes all the early-stage technologies developed at Jacobs School of Engineering. Thus, the school helps students get their hands on real-life experiences.

Location of the School

The Jacobs School of Engineering is located in San Diego America’s finest city.

Life at the Jacobs School of Engineering

University of California San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering has three housing options - Frankfurter Hall, Harlan Hall, and Stewart Hall. The students are well supervised by on-site staff, including Resident Advisors, Resident Deans, and others. Each room is furnished with a twin bed desk, chair, dresser, and chair. All the rooms are well carpeted and have blinds and an overhead light. Students also have access to the WiFi.

The School also serves meals thrice daily at the campus dining halls. Students can find vegetarian and vegan meals. However, the school dining halls mostly serve healthy diet food that suits all students' needs. In addition, the students also have the option to buy food on campus during any recreational outing and lunch if they wish to. The School of Engineering allows students to participate in recreational activities that take place during afternoons and evenings. Some of the activities they can participate in are practising musical instruments, group activities (talent shows, cosmolympics, etc.), watching movies, writing letters, reading books, and playing sports (volleyball, basketball, soccer, etc.). The school also takes the students on field trips to the San Diego Zoo, local beaches, etc. Thus, students have more to do than being involved in academics and research.

Additional Benefits of Studying at the Jacobs School of Engineering

Jacobs School of Engineering encourages graduates to participate in several organisations, such as the UC San Diego Entrepreneur Challenge and Women in Computing. In addition, the school helps collaborate across labs, disciplines and industries to solve society's toughest problems. Moreover, the school focuses on technical excellence and relevance, allowing it to train the students to become the workforce the nation requires.

In addition, the students encourage the students to engage in both fundamental and applied research where they are engaged in creating new technologies. On the other hand, the faculties are developing new technologies and empowering others to do the same.
