About the school
The College of Letters and Science under the University of California was established in 1919 with a focus on the creation and application of knowledge for improvement of the global society. It understands the significance of open access to information and promotes diversity and inclusion. This college is the largest academic unit within the UCLA system.

Life at College of Letters & Science
Being the largest academic unit in the University of California system, the College of Letters and Science is referred to as the 'heart of UCLA'. The college’s graduate programmes prepare the students to pose questions and participate in the creation of knowledge by conducting detailed research. This attitude is reflected in the three institutional responsibilities of the college which is education, research, and public service. Be it MS in Statistics, MS in Geology, or MA in Economics, every graduate from this college has been capable of displaying their unique strengths in their respective fields.
Students can choose between the on-campus and off-campus accommodation available. While the modern residence halls at UCLA are co-ed, the community restrooms and shower areas are seperated for men and women. Most of the rooms available will be shared by three students. There are also twin sharing rooms. Every room comes with basic cable tv service and a good internet connection. Study lounges and laundry facilities are also provided. For off-campus living, there are three 1 and 2 bedroom family-style apartments and houses available in the neighbourhood. These are made available on a monthly-rent basis. You can reach the college by cycling or walking. Other options include transit passes, also carpool or vanpool services.
When it comes to dining facilities, the residential restaurants are only open to students living in the on-campus residential halls. Students can choose a meal plan that is convenient to them based on their class and work schedules.
A student of UCLA can be a part of various student communities. The Bruins have bagged a total of 119 NCAA team championships- ranking second in the nation. The students interested in sports and athletics can explore many opportunities here.

Admissions criteria
If you are an international student and your first language is not English, you will have to follow a few additional procedures in comparison to US citizens. For instance, since the graduate students will be assigned TA duties, you have to pass the Test of Oral Proficiency exam conducted by the university. Generally, the online application of international candidates comes with the following types of information: Complete personal information form GPA 2.0 All certified academic records (in the original language and an English translation) TOEFL and IELTS score Minimum TOEFL score- 560 (paper and pencil test), 87(internet-based test) Minimum IELTS score - 7.0 Fill out Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 to study at UCLA on an F1(student) or J1 (exchange visitor) visa respectively.
