The University of Alabama, established in 1831 in Tuscaloosa during the presidency of Alva Woods, made history in 1838 by becoming the first institution in Alabama to offer engineering courses. Since 1936, the university has consistently maintained accreditation, which serves as a testament to its commitment to providing high-quality education. The College of Engineering, established as a separate unit in 1909, has played a significant role in reinforcing its reputation.
