About the school
Oakland University was founded in 1957 on land donated by Matilda Wilson. The university was previously divided into departments and later adopted a framework of professional schools and colleges in May 1965 when the College of Arts and Sciences was established. The Times Higher Education World University ranks Oakland University number 161 in the U.S. in 2023. The school is on The National Council for Home Safety and Security’s 2018 list of the safest college campuses in America ranking number two. Regina Carter (an American jazz violinist), Howard Birndorf (founder of Ligand Pharmaceuticals), and Jasna Rather (an Olympic medalist and 4-time Olympian) are some of the notable alumni of Oakland University Rochester's College of Arts and Sciences.
Where is the school located?
Located in southeast Michigan, between Flint and Detroit, the Oakland University campus spreads over 1,441 acres of land. It stretches over two cities, Auburn Hills and Rochester Hills.
Life at the College of Arts & Sciences
There are 18 departments of the Oakland University College of Arts and Sciences that focus on teaching and research in the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences, Visual and Performing Arts, Mathematics, and Laboratory Science. The University nurtures academic and non-academic activities and provides an inclusive campus life.
On-campus housing is provided in the five fully furnished residence halls that feature suite-style living, student apartments, Greek cottages, special interest floors, and gender-inclusive housing. Students can also find several off-campus rental residences close to Oakland University campus.
Students have a variety of dining options such as fast food restaurants, delis, coffee shops and cafeteria-style, and can select a meal plan that best suits their schedule, choosing to eat multiple times a day, or on the go. Each plan enables students to pre-pay for meals using the handy GrizzCard and eat wherever they like on campus.
The recreation facilities on the Campus include a recreation centre, an aquatic centre, a fitness court, and club sports and outdoor complex. The University offers free parking to students and visitors without any pass on a first-come, first-served basis.

Admissions criteria
International applicants are required to abide by the following admission criteria. - Baccalaureate or degree from an institution where the medium of instruction was English - A minimum GPA of 3.0 - Transcripts from all institutions attended. A course-by-course transcript evaluation report by a current member of the NACES has to be submitted. - Two professional letters of recommendation are required - Resume/ CV - Statement of Purpose may be needed for some programmes - Statement of finances, certified bank statements and affidavit of support are needed - A graduate admissions test result (GMAT, GRE, LSAT) is required - Proof of English proficiency: You must obtain the minimum score in the following exams to be eligible- TOEFL iBT: 79, TOEFL (computer): 213, IELTS: 6.5, Duolingo: 105, and PTE: 53.
