About the school

The Medill School of Journalism was founded in the Evanston campus of Northwestern University in 1921. In 1991, Medill took a pioneering step, introducing the very first graduate-level integrated marketing communications programme in the United States.

At Medill, students become part of a tight-knit and encouraging community thoughtfully fostered by the Office of Student Affairs. A dedicated team of faculty and staff are genuinely invested in helping students shape their future. At the School, students have the opportunity to construct a comprehensive portfolio through involvement in professional media partnerships and Medill's web platforms.

The Residential Services provides on-campus accommodation in three residence halls. Of these, the Engelhart Hall and the Garrett Place apartments are available for all graduate students. The Northwestern off-campus housing page is a useful resource for finding rental residences in and around Evanston and Chicago. Students can dine at the main dining commons, residential cafes, and two convenience stores. Every meal plan includes some fresh fruits and beverages.

Students can utilise the facilities of the recreation centre of the University, such as the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, Norris Aquatic Center, Combe Tennis Center, Sailing Center, Wellness Suite, etc.

The Transportation and Parking Services of the University operates several shuttle services like Intercampus, Evanston Loop, Campus Loop, Frostbite, etc., for the students to commute within the Campus.

Admissions criteria

The general admission requirements for international students applying to the graduate programmes at the Medill School of Journalism, Media and Integrated Marketing Communications are as follows:

  • A bachelor's degree that is equivalent to a 4-year undergraduate degree in the US
  • Submit a comprehensive course-by-course evaluation and degree verification from a NACES provider indicating the equivalency of the bachelor's degree.
