Admissions criteria

Ensure a smooth graduation process by scheduling advising appointments in advance, checking degree requirements, credit hours, residence criteria, GPA standards, and completing the graduation application.

Advising Appointments: Schedule sessions with college, major, and minor advisors a semester or two before your graduation term Ensure proper registration of all required courses

Degree Requirements: Review the Academic Requirements Report on MyNIU Address any deficiencies related to major, minor, foundational studies and B.A./B.S. requirements

Credit Hours: Achieve a minimum of 120 credit hours for graduation Include at least 40 upper-division courses (300- and 400-level)

Residence Requirements: Earn a minimum of 30 credit hours through NIU after reaching 80 credit hours Transfer students need to complete at least 54 hours from four-year institutions

GPA Standards: Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher Ensure major and minor GPAs also remain at 2.0 or higher Resolve any incomplete grades ("I")

Graduation Application: Apply for graduation in your final term via MyNIU Access 'self-service', then 'degree progress/graduation', and 'apply for graduation'
