Admissions criteria
To obtain a master’s degree at Northern Arizona University, completion of a carefully curated set of courses from one or multiple subject areas is obligatory, encompassing a minimum of 30 units of graduate-level coursework. It's important to note that certain master’s degree programmes may necessitate a higher unit count than the specified 30.
In addition, fulfilment of the following conditions is required:
Academic Plan Completion: Meeting all requisites for your specific academic plan(s), which may involve the submission of a thesis or related tasks
Grade Point Average: Achieving a cumulative grade point average of no less than 3.0 for all graduate-level coursework
Time Limit: Ensuring that all work towards the master’s degree is finalised within a continuous six-year period, commencing from the semester and year of programme admission

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) at NAU provides valuable information and assistance for international students, scholars, faculty, and staff. The application process and requirements for exchange students are outlined below:
Application Requirements: All exchange students must be nominated by their home university before applying to NAU. Contact your home university's study abroad office for nomination and selection details
Exchange Application Requirements: Transcript: Submit transcripts/mark sheets for all post-secondary education in English. The minimum GPA requirement is 2.5
English Proficiency: Provide proof of English proficiency meeting minimum requirements such as TOEFL (70 IBT), IELTS (6.0), Duolingo (95), ACT English & Reading (21), SAT ERW (350), Pearson Test of English (56), or other qualifications
Proof of Financial Support: Submit financial documents and complete the financial guarantee for total fees and expenses.
Passport: Provide a copy of the identification page of your passport
NAU Online Application: Submit all documents online through the NAU online application. The application link will be shared once the official nomination and approval are received
Deadlines: For the Fall semester (August – December): Apply by April 15th. For the Spring semester (January – May): Apply by October 15th
