Founded in 1870 as the Missouri School of Mines, the school initially focused on mining engineers and surveyors. However, after World War II, the university expanded, transforming into a world-class technological institute inside and outside the state. Before adopting its current name in 2008, the university was known as the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1964. As a research-based institute, the Missouri University of Science and Technology is a member of a minor, elite group of American institutions.

Sports enthusiasts can participate in ultimate frisbee, basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, badminton, kickball, disc golf, flag football, and more. The university also boasts a large theatre that plays over 100 films yearly, many of which are free for students. The meal plan offers varied food options - from espresso to bagels and pizza to pasta, students will find everything they need in the dining hall.
