About the school

Founded in 1876, Johns Hopkins University was the first American university to follow the model of a European research organisation. In addition to a gift from entrepreneur William Polk Carey, Johns Hopkins trustees decided to create a new business school on 4 December 2006 to develop creative leaders with a broad, holistic knowledge base. The Carey Business School bears the name of a prominent Baltimore trader James Carey of Loudon, William Polk Carey’s great-great-great-grandfather. The School welcomed students on January 1, 2007. Morgan Deann Ortagus (a television pundit, financial analyst, and political strategist who served as spokeswoman for the US Department of State from 2019 to 2021) and Lacena "Candy" Carson (American author, and businesswoman) are noteworthy alumni of Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Johns Hopkins Carey Business School offers classes across two campus locations–the Harbour East neighbourhood of Baltimore, Maryland (primary campus), and Washington DC.
