About the school

Drexel University’s School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems is a nationally recognised centre for research and innovation in biomedical engineering and science. The school offers multidisciplinary instructions based on the student's area of interest.

The School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems was founded in 1961. Formerly known as Biomedical Engineering and Science Institute, the academic focus areas of the school are at the forefront of bioimaging, biosensing, bio information engineering, drug delivery, human performance, biomedical ultrasound and optics, and integrated bioinformatics, both in research and innovations. Many departments at Drexel University offer master's degree programmes that align with the goals and interests of the students.

Where is the school located?

Drexel University’s School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems is in Philadelphia.

Life at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems

At the College of Medicine, student life goes far beyond the classroom. The school encourages students to get involved, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and experience Philadelphia through student organisations and social events. The school is a distinctive environment in which to pursue graduate study because of the extracurricular activities, which foster a sense of camaraderie for Drexel students.

Every student joins the Student Government Association, which organises student events and gives them a platform to voice their opinions and offer suggestions to the professors and administration. Leaders of the student government regularly discuss issues with the personnel of the dean's office. On-campus branches can be found for national organisations, including the Student National Medical Association, American Medical Women's Association, and American Medical Student Association. Also, the school sends student delegates to AAMCC student division meetings to help them interact and exchange knowledge with classmates from other medical schools nationwide. Community service organisations, Drexel fitness programmes, medical student associations, medical student culture and lifestyle clubs, and literary and musical ensembles are just a few student organisations on campus.

The 17,620-square-foot Student Activities Centre is the main attraction in the Queen Lane campus's living and learning environment. In addition to a student lounge, a bookshop, a patio with a basketball court, a quiet study area, and a full fitness centre with T.V.s, a room for student government and organisations, lockers, and showers are all available to students. Modern educational media and teleconferencing are offered in a multi-purpose room, usually set up for assembly, tests, dining, lectures, and entertainment.

One block north of the academic buildings in Centre City, Drexel provides graduate student accommodation at Stiles Hall. The students can choose a one-, two, or three-bedroom apartment in Stiles Hall. The students have a bedroom but a shared kitchen, bathroom, and living room with one or two other people.

Additional benefits of studying at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems

Drexel's School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems is the only independent school in the country focusing on biomedical engineering and science. Students are provided with first-class standing in this exceptional setting, which is truly multidisciplinary. While merging healthcare with technology, the school maintains a robust entrepreneurship programme in biomedical innovations and aims for clinical and industrial relevance in all its academic endeavours.

Also, the school partners with local business development organisations and enterprises and consultants from the legal, business development, and investment communities to help their students learn and have hands-on experience in their fields of interest.
