About the school

Drexel University has a rich engineering history, having birthed the barcodes. The College of Engineering was established in 1914, with three students enrolled in its first Bachelor of Science in Engineering programme. The programme was a four-year curriculum, and the first co-op started in 1919 with 152 engineering students. In 1945, the institution became a college and began to offer graduate degrees, which was just four years later.

The College of Engineering has many research scientists who are among the top 2% in their respective fields of interest and study. Additionally, the institution is accredited by ABET (Accredited Engineering Programmes), which provides governance over the programme and leadership, hires and designates reviewers to visit programmes and conducts on-site evaluations.

Where is the school located?

Drexel University’s College of Engineering is located in the 31st Block of Market Street, Philadelphia.

Life at the College of Engineering

The College of Engineering, located just a block away from Philadelphia's third-busiest passenger train station, offers its students excellent connectivity to various destinations. With easy access to New York, Boston, and Washington, DC, students can travel to these cities in just a few hours. Additionally, reaching Philadelphia International Airport is also hassle-free from here.

The 74-acre main campus of Drexel University is in "University City." University City, which comprises Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of the Sciences, is entirely populated by students. Urban parks, retail establishments, services geared toward students, and other amenities abound in the neighbourhood. Schuylkill Yards, a prospective mixed-use community of start-ups, established businesses, artist spaces, and affluent apartments, is next to the College. When finished, it will serve as the entrance to Philadelphia's business district.

The students can also participate in more than 200 clubs and organisations managed by the students. If they cannot find anything that interests them, the college may allow them to create a club. These active, collaborative, and networking groups work with like-minded students, faculty, and professionals. There are Drexel organisations for students interested in advanced technologies and sustainability, for engineers and architects, for computer students, for the HVAC community, for students studying aeronautics and astronautics, and for materials engineers, among many others. These include diversity-focused organisations like the National Society of Black Engineers and the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers.

Additional benefits of studying at the College of Engineering

Attending Drexel University offers numerous advantages. Their cooperative education programme is one of the most extensive, and their faculties are top-notch in their respective fields. As the largest university in America, Drexel welcomes students from all over the world and provides them with opportunities to network with professionals in their areas of interest.

The College also offers scholarships to graduates based on merit, as well as to students with various affiliations. These scholarships are primarily awarded when students begin full-time enrolment as Drexel students. Some of the scholarships awarded include the College of Engineering Dean's Scholarship, Leroy L. Resser Fund, Weggel Family Fellowship, Peace Corps, Paul D. Coverdell Fellowship, and more.

Job placements

The College of Engineering’s Career Counselling Programme supports students in their job searches and career decision-making. The Career Counseling Services assists students in developing their cover letter and résumé, mock interviews, learning how to negotiate their pay professionally, and career planning.

Additionally, they assist students in discovering their values, strengths, and areas of expertise. The College of Engineering uses Handshake and Symplicity, accessible through the official career website. Students and recent graduates can search for job requirements on Symplicity to understand what project they should concentrate on to land the job they want.

Handshake enables students to connect and widen networks with possible employers and alums, allowing them to seek internships and full-time employment possibilities. Additionally, they can sign up for career fairs to learn about additional prospects.
