About the school

Drexel University has a rich engineering history, having birthed the barcodes. The College of Engineering was established in 1914, with three students enrolled in its first Bachelor of Science in Engineering programme. The programme was a four-year curriculum, and the first co-op started in 1919 with 152 engineering students. In 1945, the institution became a college and began to offer graduate degrees, which was just four years later.

The College of Engineering has many research scientists who are among the top 2% in their respective fields of interest and study. Additionally, the institution is accredited by ABET (Accredited Engineering Programmes), which provides governance over the programme and leadership, hires and designates reviewers to visit programmes and conducts on-site evaluations.

Where is the school located?

Drexel University’s College of Engineering is located in the 31st Block of Market Street, Philadelphia.

Life at the College of Engineering

The College of Engineering, located just a block away from Philadelphia's third-busiest passenger train station, offers its students excellent connectivity to various destinations. With easy access to New York, Boston, and Washington, DC, students can travel to these cities in just a few hours. Additionally, reaching Philadelphia International Airport is also hassle-free from here.

The 74-acre main campus of Drexel University is in "University City." University City, which comprises Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of the Sciences, is entirely populated by students. Urban parks, retail establishments, services geared toward students, and other amenities abound in the neighbourhood. Schuylkill Yards, a prospective mixed-use community of start-ups, established businesses, artist spaces, and affluent apartments, is next to the College. When finished, it will serve as the entrance to Philadelphia's business district.

The students can also participate in more than 200 clubs and organisations managed by the students. If they cannot find anything that interests them, the college may allow them to create a club. These active, collaborative, and networking groups work with like-minded students, faculty, and professionals. There are Drexel organisations for students interested in advanced technologies and sustainability, for engineers and architects, for computer students, for the HVAC community, for students studying aeronautics and astronautics, and for materials engineers, among many others. These include diversity-focused organisations like the National Society of Black Engineers and the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers.
