About the school

Central Michigan University (CMU) is 1 of 4 institutions in the U.S. and 14 globally certified as a Celonis Academic Centre of Excellence (2021-2022). Founded in 1892, the University offers more than 200 programmes across business, education, health professions, humanities, STEM, and social and behavioural sciences.

CMU's College of Science & Engineering (CSE) sets the leadership standard in forward-thinking research and a modern academic approach. Life at the College of Science & Engineering

International students can join an academic organisation, social club, fraternity, or sorority life in one of the nearly 300 student organisations on campus to build lasting friendships and enhance the college experience. The Office of Global Engagement helps foster intercultural understanding and global perspectives among the CMU community, providing opportunities to engage with other cultures, develop new perspectives, and lead in a global society.

On-campus housing for graduate students offers fully-furnished 1-, 2- and 4-bedroom air-conditioned fully-furnished apartment-style units. Short-term, 1-semester suite-style housing is also available for international graduate students.

Similar accommodations are readily available for off-campus housing seekers. The rent for 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments is between $575 and $1,000 and $700 and $1,200. The University's Off-Campus housing listing site and Craigslist are good resources to begin your search.

The campus offers several meal plans and widespread dining locations, including food halls, courts, eateries, and cafes. There are also familiar favourites like Starbucks and Subway. Students can approach dieticians available on campus and use a dine-on-campus mobile ordering app.

CMU cares for the student's health and wellness with its state-of-the-art Student Activity Centre comprising courts, tracks, and a swimming pool. Enjoy intramural and club sports, fitness classes, and the SAC Aquatic Centre (pool, sauna, hot tub), or take a counselling session.

For 25 years, the CMU Centre for GISCi has provided geospatial services to non-profit organisations and the government. Students can access many other research facilities, including the Aquatic Vivarium, CMC Herbarium (archive for plant biodiversity), CMU Greenhouse, CMU Biological Station, and Microscopy Facility.

Admissions criteria

First, you must submit an online application mentioning the graduate programme you wish to apply for

International applicants must apply by May 15 to join classes in the fall semester and by October 1 for courses in the spring semester

Once the online application is complete, you must attach supporting materials as per the general and specific admission requirements:

  • A personal statement/Statement of Purpose (SOP): May be required by specific programmes

  • Letter(s) of recommendation: May be required by specific programmes

  • Undergraduate transcripts (translated into English): Required

  • Graduate admissions test result (GMAT, GRE, LSAT): May be required by specific programmes

  • Proof of proficiency in English (e.g. TOEFL/IELTS): Required (If English is not the primary language of your country, you must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting test scores for one of the proficiency tests mentioned below)
