Auburn University's College of Sciences and Mathematics, affectionately known as COSAM, puts forward a solid academic foundation for learning and research. Sciences and mathematics existed within the educational framework of Auburn University since it began as East Alabama Male College in 1856. However, the college witnessed several changes in the 1980s when the physical, biological, and mathematical sciences were brought together into one.

COSAM became the foundation for instructional, research, and outreach success, with sciences and mathematics at the forefront. It has five departments- Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, and Geosciences.
