About the school

The 1960s marked the beginning of the evolution of computing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, when the Chemistry Department's requirements led to the establishment of the Research Computing Center (RCC). In 1992, it was renamed the Department of Computer Science and launched programmes such as MCSEC and the "Loose Change" newsletter.
